PUTRAJAYA, April 2 The Drug Control Authority (DCA) has agreed to approve the conditional registration of the Covid-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca Solution for Injection for use during an emergency.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the decision over the product supplied through the Covax facility by South Korean manufacturer SK Bioscience Co Limited was made at the 355th DCA meeting today.
PUTRAJAYA: The highly-contagious B.1.351 Covid-19 variant from South Africa has been detected in at least nine cases in Malaysia, the Health Ministry said.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the variant was discovered from Covid-19 samples taken from cases around the Sepang and Kuala Langat districts in Selangor.
“It was first found in four local cases this month, and early investigations revealed that all four cases have geographical links.
“Two cases are from the Jalan Lima cluster, involving an employee of a company based at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). It is difficult to identify or confirm how the infection with the B.1.351 variant was transmitted.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 Another highly contagious variant of the Covid-19 coronavirus has been detected by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in the country since last month.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed this today, saying nine cases of the South African variant were traced to the Jalan Lima Cluster.
The infection that began among the employees in a company operating out of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang then spread to residents in the Kuala Langat district.
PUTRAJAYA: Six people in the country died of Covid-19 on Thursday (April 1), taking Malaysia s death toll to 1,278.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said two deaths were reported in Sarawak and one each in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Kelantan and Sabah. Five of the deaths are Malaysians and one is a foreigner. The ministry extends its condolences to all family members, said Dr Noor Hisham in his daily Covid-19 updates.
The deceased were aged from 54 to 81 years old and all had co-morbidities such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
The deceased foreigner, a 69-year-old woman with a history of gout, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Hospital Keningau in Sabah.
