KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 A second case of the B117 strain of the Covid-19 virus has been detected in Malaysia, revealed Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.
The Health Ministry’s director-general said the latest case is of a traveller that recently returned to Malaysia from the Middle East.
KUALA LUMPUR: The export of Covid-19 vaccines to third countries, including Malaysia, under existing Advance Purchase Agreements (APAs) will be safeguarded to the largest extent feasible, says Michalis Rokas, who is ambassador of the European Union delegation to Malaysia.
He said the EU was mindful of Advanced Purchase Authorisations contracted by Malaysia, and would endeavour to ensure that Malaysia’s expectations to obtain its deliveries would be met.
“We have made a call on all companies with APAs manufacturing in the EU to honour their obligations to deliver on their commitments, ” he said in a statement.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had said that EU and Belgium had given assurances to fulfil their vaccine supply agreements with Malaysia.
In times of political crisis, minds are moved to investigate fundamental concepts such as power and representation and legitimacy, the shorthand for the relationship between these two terms. This bearing is more pertinent than ever during a pandemic.
Our age the era of the nation state generally proffers two public arguments for political representativeness. One is the periodic vote, meant to be as universal as possible, and the other are variations on authoritarianism, usually based on a person, a family, a religion or a party being the manifestation of the nation. There is a third now quite obvious dimension, though, and this stems from the critical contingencies of the moment that which falls to technocrats and experts.

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases rose overnight to 4,571, the Health Ministry said today.
It said 17 more people died from the coronavirus as at 6pm today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 4,568 were caused by local transmission and the remaining three are imported cases.

“From local cases, 3,177 or 69.5 percent are Malaysian citizens, 1,391 (30.5 per cent) are non-citizens,” he posted in his social media today.
Selangor continues to be state with almost half of the cases recorded today with 2,056 followed by Johor (664) and Kuala Lumpur (481).
The latest data raises the cumulative Covid-19 cases in the country to 231,483.
