A Passaic man will be eligible for parole once he s served half of a five-year state prison sentence for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor in the back seat of his car.
Luis Pizarro, 47, was arrested in November 2019 after city police responded to a tipster’s call of suspicious activity in a local parking lot a month earlier, authorities said.
Detectives interviewed several witnesses, including the victim, who corroborated the report, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
Passaic County Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco secured a deal rather than have the victim testify at a trial.
As a result, Pizarro pleaded guilty in March to second-degree sexual assault in exchange for a five-year prison sentence with a 2½-year requirement before he s eligible for parole.
N.J. man accused of setting two different fires on the same day

A Passaic County man started two separate fires on the same street and the same day in March, authorities said.
Mario Palma-Sanchez, 26, of Clifton, allegedly started fires at two separate houses on Highland Avenue on March 30, 2020, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement. Palma-Sanchez is now charged with two counts of second degree aggravated arson, the statement said.
No injuries were reported in either fire, but one family was displaced, according to the statement.
Officials said Palma-Sanchez is the man they released a photo of last year during a search to find him after the fires were set.

A grand jury in Paterson returned an indictment charging a Clifton man with a pair of overnight garbage can fires on the same block, one of which spread to an adjoining home.
No one was injured, but a family was displaced by the fires set by Mario Palma-Sanchez, 26, at 148 and 122 Highland Avenue on March 30, 2020, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
Firefighters quickly doused the blaze and vented smoke from the home with fans. The Red Cross helped the displaced residents with food, shelter and clothing.

A 20-year-old Wallington man was charged with shooting a Clifton woman outside a Passaic supermarket, authorities said Monday.
Jamil Tuncer remained held in the Passaic County Jail following his arrest Saturday pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman said.
The victim, also 20, was shot near the corner of Fourth and Essex streets shortly before 7 p.m. May 1. She was treated at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center before being released.
Tuncer was arrested following an investigation by city police and the prosecutor’s office, who called him a “participant” in the shooting.
