N.J. man charged with luring, sexually assaulting 8-year-old riding scooter

A Passaic County man was arrested Friday and charged with sexually assaulting a child who was riding a scooter, authorities said.
Juan Ixcotoyac-Tiu, 25, of Bloomingdale, allegedly approached an 8-year-old as the child rode a scooter near Leary Avenue and Oak Street in Bloomingdale, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.
“It was further reported that after accosting the child, Mr. Ixcotoya-Tiu then proceeded to prevent the child from fleeing and performed an act of sexual assault upon the child,” Valdes said in a statement.

UPDATE: What began as a local traffic stop produced the arrest of a fugitive ex-con wanted for shooting two men in Paterson late last summer, authorities said.
Police in Pequannock who stopped Johnny Rodriguez, 33, of Paterson near the corner of Van Dyk Place and West Parkway around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday summoned their city colleagues after discovering an outstanding warrant.
Authorities said he and fellow ex-con Christopher Rodriguez-Mejia, 25, wounded two city men in a shooting in the area of Paterson Avenue and Liberty Street last Sept. 8.
The victims – one 32, the other 19 – survived their injuries, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora and Pequannock Township Police Chief Daniel Comune said in a joint announcement.

A Passaic driver was drunk when she sped off after hitting a 70-year-old pedestrian last month, authorities said.
Luisa Eusebio-Urena, 37, surrendered at city police headquarters in connection with the April 11 crash, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis Guzman announced Thursday.
The victim had been crossing Main Avenue near Pennington Avenue when he was struck and seriously injured around 5 a.m. that day, they said. He was treated at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.
Police charged Eusebio-Urena with DWI assault by auto, leaving the scene of a crash and endangering an injured victim, then released her on a summons to answer the charges in court under New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform law.

Three people were found dead Monday night after a fire burned through a single-family home in Passaic County, authorities said.
Police and firefighters were called about 6:15 p.m. to 1.5-story home in the 100 block of Jackson Avenue in Wayne.
The victims, who were all adults, were found dead at the scene, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.
The names of the victims were not released and Valdes said investigators are looking for more information about the fire.

A 29-year-old Passaic County man pleaded guilty on Monday to sending threatening text messages to Ibrahim “Mike” Baycora, who is Paterson’s first Muslim police chief.
Stefan Keco, of Clifton, pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree terroristic threats. He faces sentencing on May 28.
Baycora received two threatening text messages on Feb. 26, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement. The texts involved chief’s religion, race and national origin, officials previously said.
