Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the Franklin County Sheriff s Office got a call just before 11:00 Tuesday morning from a man who told them his vehicle was submerged in a pond. He went on to say that he and his wife required medical attention.

When Deputies got to the scene, they made contact with the husband and then went to check on his wife, who was lying on the shore of the pond. First Responders determined that she had died, prior to their arrival. The man was then transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital. There s no word on how badly he was hurt.

JAY A 66-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital Tuesday night to be evaluated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a bedroom at mobile home at 14 Pleasant Drive in North Jay, Fire Rescue Chief Mike Booker said Wednesday.
The brother of homeowner, Sammie Mckenzie, was going by and saw smoke coming from the home at about 7:30 p.m., he said.
He went in to get a woman and three children, ages 5, 6, and 7, out, he said. The homeowner’s brother reported the fire, he said.
