Print AKRON Goodyear is raising prices on all consumer passenger tires by up to 8 percent in North America, its first price hike in 2021. The Akron-based tire maker said the price hike affects all Goodyear-, Kelly- and Dunlop-branded tires. The increase is effective April 1. Goodyear last raised tire prices on Dec. 1, when it raised prices for Goodyear- and Dunlop-branded passenger and light truck tires in the U.S. by up to 5 percent. Other tire makers who have raised prices recently include: Michelin North America Inc., which is planning to raise prices on select Michelin, BFGoodrich and Uniroyal car and light truck tires in the U.S. and Canada by up to 8 percent on April 1, on top of a 5 percent increase imposed on Feb. 1;

Tire industry supplier King Machine to expand S C mold plant

Print SUMTER, S.C Tire mold maker King Machine plans to expand its mold plant in Sumter, positioning itself to serve the robust tire industry throughout the Palmetto State more effectively. The tire supplier plans to inject $2.6 million into its facility, located in Sumter s Black River Industrial Park, to fund construction of a 50,000-sq.-ft. custom-finished facility that is expected to add about 30 jobs, according to a statement by the South Carolina Department of Commerce, The project should be complete by 2024. King Machine is excited to continue growing in Sumter, King Machine CEO Mike Wells said. The support received from the Sumter community and Continental Tire, along with the support and expertise provided by Thompson Turner Construction has solidified our decision to continue investing and creating jobs in Sumter.
