Sky News host Peter Gleeson says he doesn't think there'd be a country in the world, other than perhaps Taiwan, "that has handled the coronavirus pandemic as well from a fiscal and health perspective, like Australia".
The nation's $23bn COVID welfare bill will be more than halved over the next four years and JobSeeker recipient numbers returned to pre-pandemic levels, with a rapid rebound in the jobs market to be revealed in next week's federal budget.
Push for moratorium on new gas connections to reach Victoria’s emissions target04/05/2021|2min
A proposed moratorium on new gas connections to households in Victoria could see appliances including heaters, hot water services and cooktops gradually disposed of.
The Age is reporting the move comes in a bid to help the state achieve its 2030 climate target – to cut emissions by up to 50 per cent.
Sky News host Peter Gleeson commented on the issue, saying it’s an “admirable” target.
“It’s something that I think you would expect governments to strive towards,” he said.
“I’m just wondering about the practicality of it.”
Hotel quarantine fiasco in Victoria needs a royal commission: Gleeson04/05/2021|4min
Sky News host Peter Gleeson says the hotel quarantine fiasco in Victoria is real , the Coate Inquiry was essentially a whitewash , and the system needs a royal commission.
A senior Andrews government bureaucrat managing infection prevention across Victoria s hotel quarantine program has been reported to authorities twice since March after defying a Defence Force request for a mandatory COVID-19 test and breaching infection-control protocols.
PR Counsel Principal Kristy McSweeney said Victorian taxpayers should not forget the parade of ministers walking in front of the inquiry, backed by barristers and various QCs to defend ministers and not tell us anything at all .

Federal government’s funding for WA economy ‘won’t swing a vote’ for Morrison03/05/2021|2min
The federal government’s $1.3 billion injection into the Western Australian economy isn’t something which will “swing a vote” for the Prime Minister at moment, according to 6PR’s Oliver Peterson.
The West Australian is reporting the economic injection will help upgrade roads and key infrastructure projects.
“It’ll all just get wrapped up and tied with a bow,” Mr Peterson told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.
“I think people will just consider it all part of the one package.”

Great opportunity to ‘parachute’ Amanda Stoker into House of Representatives03/05/2021|8min
Sky News host Peter Gleeson says there is now a “great opportunity” to parachute Assistant Attorney General Amanda Stoker into the House of Representatives.
Senator Stoker lost her bid for the top position on the Senate ticket to fellow Senator James McGrath and has now been relegated to the usually unwinnable third spot.
Mr Gleeson said there was an opportunity for Senator Stoker to be moved to the seat of Bowman where there will likely be a pre-selection battle.
“If she wants to get ahead in life, she needs to be in the House of Representatives rather than being a Senator,” he said.
