Two Naval ships bring oxygen from Kuwait to Mangaluru

Till now, 4 Naval vessels carrying oxygen have arrived at New Mangalore Port
New Mangalore Port handled two more vessels of the Indian Navy INS Kochi and INS Tabar – on Tuesday by berthing them simultaneously.
INS Kochi carried three liquid oxygen filled containers of net weight 20 tonne each, 40 pallets of oxygen cylinders of one tonne each, and two 10-litre high-flow oxygen concentrators.
INS Tabar carried two liquid oxygen filled containers of net weight 20 tonne each, and 30 pallets of oxygen cylinders of one tonne each.
The medical oxygen and concentrators are from the second tranche of medical aids donated by the Kuwait government to Indian Red Cross Society. The cargoes were loaded on both the ships at Shuwaikh Port and sailed out on May 6.

MANGALURU: Naval vessel INS Kolkata, which was carrying oxygen and other equipment, landed at New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) on Monday. The vessel sailed out from Shuwaikh Port, Kuwait, on May 5 carrying the aid and is among the nine vessels under the Samudra Setu-II operations launched by the Indian Navy. The vessel is carrying 40 MT of oxygen filled in two ISO tanks, 200 oxygen cylinders packed in 10 pallets weighing 10 MT and four 10-litre high flow oxygen concentrators.

The Kuwait government donated medical oxygen and equipment to the Indian Red Cross Society to overcome the current pandemic crisis. New Mangalore Port handled one more vessel of the Indian Navy ‘INS Kolkata’ – on Monday. The vessel carried two 20-tonne oxygen-filled tanks, 200 oxygen cylinders and four 10-litre high-flow oxygen concentrators from Kuwait.
A press statement by NMPT (New Mangalore Port Trust) said that the vessel, which arrived at New Mangalore Port at 2 pm, was given priority berthing.
The cargo was loaded on to the Indian Navy vessel and sailed out from Shuwaikh Port, Kuwait, on May 5. This is one among the nine vessels under the SamudraSetu-II operation launched by the Indian Navy.

Five members were tested positive
A crude oil tanker owned by Sanmar Shipping Ltd has been quarantined at Vizhinjam Port for 14 days from Monday after five crew members on the ship were tested Covid-19 positive, while attempting to carry out crew change.
‘M T Sanmar Songbird’ sailed from Vadinar port in Gujarat on April 28 to Durban in South Africa.
However, on April 28 a crew died due to Covid, off the coast of Mangalore and so the ship sailed to New Mangalore Port Trust to disembark the body citing suspected heart attack as the cause of death. The ship also signed off two more crew members at New Mangalore Port.
