Gin Blossoms, Lee Rocker to headline Las Cruces Fourth of July show

LAS CRUCES - The city s annual fireworks show and concert is returning in 2021.
The Gin Blossoms and Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats will headline the Fourth of July Celebration Concert and Fireworks display at the Pat and Lou Sisbarro Community Park, 3205 Arrowhead Drive, on the New Mexico State University campus.
The free concert will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 4 followed by the annual fireworks display.
Last year, the city canceled many of its Fourth of July festivities amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The city launched fireworks in 2020 but didn t disclose a location in advance to discourage gatherings.

NMSU graduate students seek union to improve conditions

LAS CRUCES – Nearly 60 percent of graduate students at New Mexico State University have signed union cards to file for legal recognition with the NMSU Labor Relations Board.
This is one more step in the process to improve working conditions for graduate students at NMSU, according to James Lewis, a Math Department teaching assistant and graduate student at NMSU who helped organize the union efforts. This started around three years ago, Lewis said. With the new graduate school dean, (we) held monthly meetings with the theme to open a dialogue with the administration.
