Nearly three months after purchasing NHRMC, Novant Health is beefing up the “regional” in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The private, nonprofit announced a series of changes Tuesday that integrate key NHRMC leaders into Novant’s newly formed Coastal market as well as systemwide roles with the Winston-Salem-based health network. The new lineup means a Brunswick County health care executive is now in charge of NHRMC, while an NHRMC executive takes over the helm at Novant s Brunswick hospital.
Prior to the purchase of NHRMC, its footprint in the tri-county region was limited to Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia. The nearly $2 billion deal expanded that presence dramatically, making the 35,000-employee system the major health care provider in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.

“We typically share our State of the County in early February, but we postponed this year’s a bit because we were in the height of our vaccination efforts and planning, and April felt like a great month to highlight the work of the county since it is National County Government Month,” she said.

They both thrive on the social interactions that go along with being bartenders in a friendly, close-knit beach community. The friends and roommates both work at The Dive on N. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach and have a long history in the food and beverage business there.
They are also survivors of the fire that destroyed their home, and many others, in the Paradise Cove community on April 2.
Of the two, Ryan was the only one home.
“I had just gotten home from having lunch with friends,” she said. “And then in 15 minutes the fire broke out. And then it seemed like in another 15, the building was burnt to the ground.”
