ABC Columbia SLED says the charges stem from an incident that took place February 17 in Florence S.C. Feb 25, 2021 12:09 AM EST Columbia, SC (WOLO) Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) say they arrested a man they believe is connected to a February incident where Florence County Sheriff’s shot back at a man accused of shooting at them, barricading himself in a home they say he later set on fire. According to SLED Agents, 49 year old Christopher Gaskins was arrested Monday following that incident. Officials say they responded to a call for service where they tell ABC Columbia News Gaskins refused to come outside of the structure before they say he shot at responding officers ten times,  hitting an occupied Florence County Sheriff’s Office cruiser and ultimately set the building ablaze

(WMBF) – Authorities are investigating a house fire in Florence County that left one person dead. Crews were called to reports of a fire at a single-family home in the 3500 block of East Effingham Highway around 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from Howe Springs Fire Rescue. Firefighters searched the home and found the victim in a bedroom, officials said. The victim was pronounced dead on scene. That person’s name was not immediately available.

(WMBF) – Florence County’s sheriff revealed he was fired upon during an officer-involved shooting last week. Sheriff TJ Joye was one of the officers at a home at the intersection of Hicks Road and Factory Street in Coward on Feb. 17 after calls came in of a suspect threatening to set fire to a home and shooting outside of the residence.
