Davie Jane Gilmour STEM the acronym coined by the National Science Foundation two decades ago to mean “science, technology, engineering and mathematics” has become commonplace in education. Schools aim to ensure K-12 students receive solid STEM programming. STEM Days connect kids to fun science, technology, engineering and math activities. Educators, legislators and business leaders are on board. Countless complex problems await solutions, and we need a citizenry well-versed in STEM to address them. But for all the recognition STEM has received, many high school students still cannot envision careers that relate to these subjects. That disconnect appears to indicate a lack of clarity regarding what constitutes a STEM career.

Man jailed following vehicle theft and high-speed chase | News, Sports, Jobs

pholmes@sungazette.com A Beaver County man was locked on high bail after allegedly stealing a pickup truck from downtown Williamsport and taking area police on a lengthy high-speed chase Tuesday night before pulling off a road entering Nisbet and surrendering to authorities. The pursuit lasted nearly 30 minutes and covered a large area that exceeded 20 miles, city police said. Taken into custody in a driveway off of East Village Drive at the rear of the Sunoco Food Mart in Nisbet was Gabriel Strano, 35, of Aliquippa, police said. During the pursuit, Strano struck a Pennsylvania College of Technology police cruiser driven by Patrolman Justin Hakes three times, disabling the car in the third collision.
