PennDOT lifts vehicle restrictions on I-78, Turnpike Northeast Extension

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials have lifted vehicle restrictions and restored normal speed limits on the state’s major roadways.
PennDOT prohibited during the timeframe tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers; tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers; enclosed cargo delivery trucks; passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers; and recreational vehicles/motorhomes.
Also prohibited were school buses, commercial buses and motor coaches not carrying chains or Alternate Traction Devices (ATD’s) and motorcycles.
All restrictions were lifted, in effect Sunday morning. Drivers can monitor road conditions at 511pa.com.

Presidents’ Day is celebrated the third Monday of February.
This year, the holiday falls on Monday, Feb. 15. Originally, it marked the birthday of George Washington, on Feb. 22. But the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which took effect in 1971, switched the commemoration (along with Columbus Day and Memorial Day) to the Monday holiday.
The federal government continues to recognize the third Monday in February as Washington’s Birthday, but because states are not obliged to adopt federal holidays, the date can vary.

This weekend’s forecast for winter weather has led to vehicle restrictions on highways in and around the Lehigh Valley, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
Restrictions went into effect at 12:15 p.m. Saturday on highways including the entire length of both Interstate 78 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476).

Rebecca Landrith was found dead along a Pennsylvania highway on Sunday, February 7. The Union County Coroner revealed that the 47-year-old was found lifeless after being shot in the head, neck and chest at the Mile Run exit of I-80 in Pennsylvania and her death was ruled a homicide.
The Philly Voice reported that her body was first found by a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation worker early Sunday. As the coroner claimed that she was shot multiple times and 18 bullets were removed from her body. Landrith was then identified using fingerprints from receipts that were found on her body.
