RAPID CITY, S.D. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office bringing on a few deputies and other staff members Tuesday afternoon.
In a swearing-in ceremony at the Public Safety Building in Rapid City, the Sheriff’s Office welcomed 15 new members to its staff. Of the 425 employed with the Sheriff’s Office, only about a quarter work in law enforcement. So, along with four new Sheriff’s Deputies were new hires for the Care Campus, 24/7 Program, and the County Jail.
Deputies and correctional officers taking the oath office to solidify their commitment to their position.
“You’re taking on more than just a job. Not only is this a career but your choosing to protect and serve and uphold the rights of the people you’re doing that for. So it’s something you take seriously, it’s that big of a deal that you have to raise your right hand take an oath of office and sign that sheet of paper,” Steph McCoy, PCSO Director of Administrative Services
Ex-Salvation Army leader pleads not guilty to child porn

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) A former leader of the Salvation Army in the Black Hills has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.
Investigators seized 46 electronic items during a search this month at the Salvation Army s Black Hills Camp, officials said. The Salvation Army says it has fired Moreno and is cooperating with the investigation.
Moreno was a captain and the Black Hills Area coordinator and lived at the camp in Rapid City.
The federal indictment comes after Moreno was charged May 11 by Pennington County prosecutors with one count of possessing, creating or distributing child pornography, the Rapid City Journal reported.

Rapid City man arrested after fatal vehicle-vs-pedestrian crash

At around 9:25 p.m. on May 14
th, police were dispatched to the intersection of 7
th Street and Saint Joseph Street for a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. On arrival, they located the pedestrian in the roadway. Police worked to provide emergency first aid until a medical unit arrived. A medical unit arrived and continued life-saving measures until it was determined the pedestrian was deceased.
The pedestrian was identified as 47-year-old Paul Walking of Pine Ridge. According to the RCPD, Larry and Paul Walking are brothers.
