Nokia on Thursday partnered with Alphabet s Google Cloud unit to build 5G core network infrastructure and allow business customers to offer services such as smart retail and automated manufacturing. Cloud computing units of big technology companies such as Microsoft and Amazon are also tying up with telecoms vendors ahead of deployment of 5G infrastructure to corner a share in new businesses the new technology might enable. While Nokia will bring its 5G expertise, Google Cloud will serve as the platform for launching applications and assist customers in building an ecosystem of services. We will start to see some of these things to get in the live environment by end of this year, Amol Phadke, Managing Director at Google Cloud told Reuters.
Consumers around the globe spent an estimated $407.6 million across Apple s App Store and Google Play on Christmas, a year-over-year growth of nearly 35 per cent per cent from approximately $303 million in 2019, according to a new report by data analytics firm Sensor Tower. Between the two platforms, Apple s App Store captured the bulk of the spending at $278.6 million, while Google Play saw $129 million in revenue, said the report. This is in line with the massive growth in worldwide spending on mobile apps and games in 2020 which passed $100 billion in a single year for the first time ever in November. The majority of the holiday spending was on mobile games, which climbed 27 per cent from $232.4 million on Christmas 2019 to $295.6 million this year, said the report.
Tech company Amazon recently revealed that it has signed a deal to acquire podcast production firm Wondery. According to Mashable, the move is aimed towards expanding its efforts to provide more offerings to users from its music platform Amazon Music.
Amazon announced the details about the detail on its blog post, stating that the deal hasn t closed yet. It further stated that Wondery is a hit podcast publisher known for producing top-rated podcasts that entertain and educate listeners, including Dirty John, Dr. Death, Business Wars, and The Shrink Next Door. These will now be included in Amazon Music.
