IH reporting COVID cluster at Big White

Posted: December 15, 2020 IH reporting COVID cluster at Big White Interior Health (IH) reported today it has identified a COVID-19 cluster linked to Big White Ski Resort, 63 km east of Kelowna. “Our investigation reveals 60 cases of COVID-19 related to Big White; mostly from transmission related to shared housing. All identified cases are required to self-isolate and public health continues to follow-up directly with their close contacts with guidance and support,” IH stated. “Large households and social gatherings appear to be responsible for much of the COVID-19 transmission related to this cluster. This highlights the importance of limiting social activities and following COVID-19 protocols when indoors.

COVID-19 cluster links 60 cases to Big White Mountain: Interior Health

Michael Ballingall, Senior Vice President of Big White Ski Resort, tells Daily Hive that concerns of transmission began after a party hosted on November 28. “We don’t believe that our staff were involved in that party,” he says in a phone interview. “But we’re also not naive to think that there could’ve been a few that we’re not aware of.” Ballingall says that “some people tested positive” for COVID-19 as a result of the party, adding that Big White Ski Resort has a number of people in isolation in their staff accommodation. Additionally, Interior Health volunteered to send a team to help test on the mountain and has been going on since last week.
