(WTXL) — The Berrien Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam, wherein the caller claims to be a Corporal with BCSO. BCSO says it received several complaints about a person identifying himself as Corporal Jessie Harper calling from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office. Reportedly, the caller tells the person they have missed jury duty, then demands money to keep them from going to prison. BCS said law enforcement will never call you demanding money in lieu of arrest. If this person calls you, hang up and block the number.

The chase started around 2:53 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, when police saw a 1998 black Dodge Ram pickup driving near Pucker and Pokagon Streets in Berrien Township, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office said. The pickup looked like the one that fled from officers earlier Wednesday and late Tuesday, police said. They were investigating potential thefts from vehicles in the area.

Berrien County Sheriff’s Office deputies saw at about 2:50 a.m. a black 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck that matched the description of a vehicle that had previously fled from law enforcement, a news release said. The vehicle was seen near Pucker Street and Pokagon Road in Berrien Township and the previous pursuit involved officers from Bridgman City and Niles City earlier in the evening while those officers were investigating potential thefts from vehicles.

Deputies are concerned because Hacker might not have the mental capacity to get home or give others his information.
