Delta begins COVID-19 vaccination as Okowa, wife other receive first dose

Delta State Government on Friday commenced the vaccination of its citizens against COVID-19, with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, his wife, Edith and members of the state’s Executive Council taking their turns.
The Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Patience Elumeze and health workers were also vaccinated in the exercise which was held at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Asaba.
Speaking after he was vaccinated, Okowa said that the vaccine was approved by World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and encouraged the people to take it.

The organised labour yesterday vowed to call out its members on a nationwide indefinite strike should the National Assembly go ahead with the bill seeking to move the National Minimum Wage from the Exclusive List to the Concurrent List of the Constitution.
The union argued that National Minimum Wage as embedded in the constitution is an internationally recognized standard which has the endorsement of the United Nations, through its agency, International Labour Organisation (ILO).
This is coming as hundreds of members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday organised a one-day protest during which they marched to the National Assembly complex in Abuja and the state Houses of Assembly across the country.

National Leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa on Friday led dignitaries to flag off the long-expected 1.4 km dual carriageway flyover at Pen Cinema junction, Agege Local Government Area of the state.
Tinubu, addressing the mammoth crowd on the occasion, urged the youths to allow peace to reign in the country, saying no nation can develop in an atmosphere devoid of peace and harmony.
Recall that the bridge was initially scheduled to be commissioned last week but was rescheduled due to exigencies.
