lfujimoto@mauinews.com WAILUKU Bail was increased to $50,000 for a man who allegedly threw a glass bottle at a stranger and assaulted a police officer before he was arrested Tuesday in Paia town. Ruben Rosado, 31, was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening, harassment, fourth-degree criminal property damage, first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. He appeared by videoconference from the courthouse cellblock for his initial appearance Thursday in Wailuku District Court. In asking for Rosado’s bail to be increased to $100,000, Deputy Prosecutor Joshua Kent detailed the crimes that started shortly before noon Tuesday when Rosado allegedly threw a glass bottle at a random stranger walking on the sidewalk along Baldwin Avenue in an unprovoked attack.

The Maui News WAILUKU Bail was set at $50,000 for a 35-year-old man who is facing charges alleging he threatened employees at a business near Kahului Airport. Morgan Simmons, 35, was arrested Tuesday and charged with four counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. He allegedly threatened to kill four people multiple times in phone calls March 9, Deputy Prosecutor Lewis Littlepage said during an initial appearance for Simmons on Thursday in Wailuku District Court. Simmons appeared by videoconference from the Maui Police Department for the hearing. He asked to be released on supervision. Deputy Public Defender Gustavo Gonzalez said Simmons was arrested when he returned from Portland, Ore., where he went to see Veterans Administration doctors to address mental health and medical issues.

Kaipo Lapenia-Lau, 25, of Kahului was arrested Tuesday morning after a police pursuit that ended at a residence off Kahekili Highway in Waihee. Lapenia-Lau appeared by videoconference from the courthouse cellblock for his initial appearance Friday in Wailuku District Court. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of first-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle and first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.
