Driver, 16, charged with DUI after fatal crash

One person is dead following a Sunday morning car crash in Putney. Vermont State Police say the 16-year-old victim of Rockingham, VT, was the passenger. The 16-year-old driver of Saxton s River, VT, has non-life threatening injures. Police say around 3 a.m. they received a report of a car crash with entrapment. When crews responded to the scene, the were able to get the victim out of the vehicle. The victim was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead. The driver was also taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later processed for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver will appear in Windham County Family Court later this week on the charges of Grossly Negligent Operation with death resulting and DUI with fatality resulting.Police are not releasing the name of the victim at this time.
