Rawlings’ family has accepted decision to rename UDS after him – Prez Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that the family of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings has accepted his decision to rename the University of Development Studies, Tamale after him. In a tribute read at the final day of a four-day funeral for Mr Rawlings in Accra, President Akufo-Addo said although the former military leader declined the initial offer to rename UDS after him in 2017, the offer has since found favour with his family. He said the necessary formalities will be carried out to rename the UDS; The Jerry John Rawlings University of Development Studies, Tamale.

  Former Acting General Secretary of the Convention People s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh has paid tribute to the the first President of Ghana under the Fourth Republic, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings. The late former President Jerry John Rawlings went home today, January 27. He was buried at the new Military Cemetery at Burma Camp in the Greater Accra Region. The Military led a procession carrying his mortal remains to the cemetery. James Kwabena Bomfeh touted the good leadership of Mr. Rawlings citing some of his legacies to be the rural electrification in the country, major improvement and adjustments to the education system and his transition from an autocratic rule to democracy.c

Paying a tribute to the late former President, Mr Yeboah said Mr Rawlings was able to flexibly adjust to the reality of what life brought his way. “JJ shared his life with Ghana since 1979. Some hearts continue to bleed because of him, while other hearts continue to rejoice because of him. But the most important thing and meaningfulness of life is when shared with people to make the world a better place than when one first met it,” he stated.
