With a surge in the number of mucormycosis patients and huge treatment cost required for the same, the joint charity commissionerate of Pune has given permission to six big trust hospitals to club various health schemes to provide free treatment to such patients.

Citizens who do not have cards for the insurance schemes will be eligible for the treatment at the notified facilities free of cost.
Amid the coronavirus crisis, the country is now fighting
Mucormycosis which is also known as the
Black Fungus disease. However, now the treatment for Mucormycosis will be covered under the government health scheme.
As per reports, the MVA government informed the Aurangabad bench of Bombay HC that the disease will be covered under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Aarogya Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said that the state government has classified black fungus as a notified disease. Addressing the media, Tope said, There are 2,245 cases of black fungus in the state. The state government has classified black fungus as a notified disease. Under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, patients of black fungus will receive free treatment at state-run hospitals, the Maharashtra Health Minister further said. Several states and UTs have declared mucormycosis, also called black fungus, as an epidemic under the Epidemic Diseases Act (1897). Tope also said that the current COVID-19 positivity rate is 12 per cent and the recovery rate is 93 per cent in the state.
