Texas Baptist schools relax COVID protocols

Texas Baptist universities recently relaxed their COVID-19 protocols in light of increased availability of vaccine, declining infection rates and in some cases updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control.
On May 17, Baylor University announced fully vaccinated individuals no longer will be required to wear face coverings indoors or outdoors. Those who have not been vaccinated are still required to wear face coverings when indoors.

Baylor also lifted all capacity limitations for outdoor activities including athletic venues and made face coverings optional outdoors for everyone.
The Bell County Public Health District announced Monday that its board of health has chosen an interim director.
The new director â Nikki Morrow â will serve as the groupâs head until a new director can be identified through an interview process. Morrow has worked with the district for two decades and is the local director for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.
âI am looking forward to serving the health district as interim and collaborating with our departments and community partners,â Morrow said.
Morrow has been the nutrition program director for past four years, since 2017, with the initiative serving more than 15,000 participants each month throughout the county.
As the incidence rate of COVID-19 cases continues to go down in the county, the Bell County Public Health District reported two new deaths Thursday.
âWe added two new deaths for a new total of 432,â Dr. Amanda Robison-Chadwell, director of the district, said. âThe new deaths were for a man in his 50s from Killeen and a woman in her 60s from Bell County.â
Robison-Chadwell, director of the district, said the new incidence rate in the county dropped to 61.2 cases per 100,000 people. The previous rate was 64.8 cases per 100,000 people.
The county now has 222 active cases of COVID-19, for a total of 22,356 cases overall and 21,702 recoveries.
