Rower Karen Weekes Aims to Be First Irish Female to Complete the Solo Atlantic Crossing

If she completes it, Weekes will be only the 20th woman to row any ocean on the globe solo.
“A near-collision with a drilling ship, two capsizes, lots of peanut butter and Nutella consumed” was how Jasmine Harrison (21) of North Yorkshire described her successful Atlantic crossing earlier this year.
Harrison set a new world record for the youngest female to solo row the 3,000 mile (4,800km) journey from the Canaries to Antigua.
Kilkenny-born seasoned adventurer Dr Karen Weekes aims to become the first Irish female to complete the solo crossing.

Half a million people have now registered on the online portal to get their Covid-19 vaccine.
55 year olds can use the HSE system from today to sign up for the jab.
Thursday saw more than 46,000 doses administered which is a new daily record.
Around a third of adults have now received at least one dose.
Meanwhile, 3,600 vulnerable people will receive a Covid-19 jab in a vaccination centre in Cork this weekend.
It’s the latest clinic run by 22 GP practices in Munster Technological University.
The number of Covid-19 patients in public hospitals has halved in the past month.
