DETROIT The Detroit Red Wings today signed defenseman Donovan Sebrango to a three-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2021-22 season.
Sebrango, 19, is currently playing with the American Hockey League s Grand Rapids Griffins, making his AHL debut on Feb. 11 at Chicago and picking up his first point with an assist on March 3 at Rockford. In his first stint of professional hockey, Sebrango has recorded one assist, a plus-one rating a team-high 14 penalty minutes and eight shots on goal in nine games as the fourth-youngest defenseman currently in the AHL. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins nearly doubled-up the Rockford IceHogs in shots on Saturday as they looked to extend their series winning streak to four, but Dylan McLaughlin cashed in on a 2-on-1 break 2:14 into overtime to give the visitors a 2-1 win at Van Andel Arena.
Rockford netminder Matt Tomkins was the story over the first two scoreless periods, keeping the IceHogs in the game despite the Griffins’ shot advantages of 14-5 in the first period and 30-10 through 40 minutes.

Riley Barber powered the Grand Rapids Griffins to their 1,000th regular season victory on Thursday, a 3-1 triumph over the Rockford IceHogs at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

The Detroit Red Wings’ third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft has played in seven of Grand Rapids’ first eight games, and in the Griffins’ most recent contest at Rockford on March 3, Sebrango recorded his first career American Hockey League point. Sebrango had an assist on Tyler Spezia’s second-period goal, helping the Griffins post a 9-4 victory.
