Sources confirmed to MassLive that the state medical examiner ruled 16-year-old Miller’s death a suicide and the cause was listed as “asphyxia by hanging.” Miller, who was Black and a member of the LGBTQ community, was found deceased on Sunday, April 18 by a person jogging in Hopkinton. Authorities have said a fight broke out between Miller and two other teenagers in the recreational area of the apartment complex she lived on April 17. Three other teens, one of whom was in a relationship with Miller, were also in and around the complex at the time.

DA Marian Ryan needs to go The rally, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. outside the Middlesex district attorney’s Lowell office at 151 Warren St., has been called to demand that Ryan resign and the investigation be turned over to the FBI. “DA Marian Ryan needs to go,” according to the Facebook call-to-action. “We are (going to) demand that she step down from her position because she has proven that she is incompetent.” Ryan, through a spokeswoman, declined to comment if she would attend the rally or to address the group’s call for her to resign. Strothers could not be reached for comment about the rally. She spoke at another rally in Hopkinton last week.

(AP) — Family members and activists are demanding answers in the death of a Black teen whose body was found near her home in a Boston suburb last month. Authorities said they have not determined how 16-year-old Mikayla Miller died. Her body was found on April 18 in a wooded area roughly a mile from her home in Hopkinton. County prosecutors have said they are awaiting a medical examiner s report before reaching any conclusions. Miller’s mother, Calvina Strothers, has blasted the police response, saying officers hastily concluded it was a suicide and failed to complete a thorough investigation. She said her family has faced “disrespect, slammed doors, misdirection, glaring inconsistencies, extreme confusion, and ultimately, silence.”
