Family and friends are grieving for a Jacksonville man killed Monday

Everything was good. He was telling me to say hi to a mutual friend from school. Nothing was out of the ordinary to make me think that something horrible like this could have happened a few hours later, Montoya said. The shooting happened about 9 p.m. at Blue Store Discount, 9195 103rd St., according to the Sheriff s Office, which has released little information about the slaying. Detectives said he was shot during a confrontation they think evolved from a drug transaction.  George was Jacksonville s 45th homicide this year, unofficial Times-Union records show. But he was so much more than just a sad, grim statistic. Those mourning his death say the 2015 Forrest High School graduate was known for his infectious laugh and winning smile.

Jacksonville records third homicide in first seven days of April

April 2020 saw the city s worst surge of homicides for the year, and this month is up to three in the first week. The latest was a man shot Wednesday morning in the 100 block of West 23rd Street, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. Police are looking for a dark four-door sedan possibly involved. Multiple 911 calls led officers to respond to the area about 11 a.m., Sgt.  Steve Rudlaff said. There they found the victim, 30 to 35 years old, lying on a sidewalk near North Laura Street with multiple gunshot wounds. There was possibly a car in the area, seen twice, Rudlaff said. The gunfire was in the street, we can only assume possibly from the car, but we can t be sure if they exited the vehicle.
