Mithun Chakraborty: Indian BJP s chief ministerial face in Bengal?

Speculation is rife that Barisal-born Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty may soon join India s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that has not yet been able to zero in on its chief ministerial face in the poll-bound eastern state of West Bengal. The Indian state and Bangladesh share a land border and a common language.
What has fuelled the speculation is Mithunda s (as he is affectionately called) hour-long meeting with the chief of BJP s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Mohan Bhagwat, over breakfast at the 70-year-old actor s posh Madh Island home in Mumbai on Tuesday morning.

Targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said he was worried about the current state of affairs in Bengal. Dhankhar alleged Mamata Banerjee is ruling Bengal in an “emergency-like” manner as if it is her personal jaagir (estate).

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar hit out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claiming that the Trinamool Congress government in the state was adopting unconstitutional ways to rule to govern.

KOLKATA: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday claimed that fear has pervaded the minds of the people of the state and they are even afraid to talk about it openly.
Freedom means freedom from fear, Dhankhar said adding that democracy and rule of law also signify freedom from fear. We are at the moment not free from that fear. People are so much in fear that they can t even talk about it, he said during a programme here.
