Pedestrian stuck and killed along Route 35 in Monmouth County, authorities say Updated Mar 03, 2021; A 29-year-old New Jersey man was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night as he crossed Route 35 in Holmdel, officials said. John Hebeler, of Tuckerton, was hit as he crossed a section of the four-lane highway at about 7:15 p.m., the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said. Hebeler wasn’t in a crosswalk or near an intersection when he was struck on the southbound side near the Holmdel Motor Inn, a prosecutor’s office spokesman said. The man had been staying at the motel, authorities said.

Colts Neck, NJ police search for armed man who robbed Manasquan Bank

COLTS NECK - Police are investigating after an armed man robbed the Manasquan Bank on Route 34 Monday afternoon, authorities said. The man walked into the bank wearing a red facemask and carrying a clipboard. He showed a handgun to the teller and made off with about $600, said Lt. Brian Caswell, a Colts Neck police spokesman. The suspect fled the area and Caswell said police have not yet identified him. The robbery was reported shortly after 3 p.m. Colts Neck police, the Monmouth County Prosecutor s Office and the FBI are all involved in the investigation, Caswell said. Manasquan Bank posted a notice on its website Monday evening informing customers that the Colts Neck branch would be closed until further notice.

Area man sentenced to prison in connection with woman s death at Tinton Falls motel

A Long Branch man has been sentenced to serve six years in state prison as a result of a plea to the first degree crime of strict liability for drug induced death. The charges stem from an overdose death that took place in February 2020 in Tinton Falls, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced. Lateef Reevey, 31, was sentenced on Feb. 17 by state Superior Court Judge Lourdes Lucas to six years in state prison subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA). Pursuant to NERA, Reevey will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole. Reevey also received a five-year term in state prison for an unrelated charge of conspiracy to possess a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), which will run concurrent to the strict liability charge, according to a press release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

NJ man prison-bound for repeated sexual assaults of young girls FREEHOLD – A Shrewsbury man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, a year after he confessed to sexually assaulting seven different girls, all younger than 13, over a ten year span. Victor Mejia-Salinas was sentenced on Friday by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Vincent N. Falcetano, who slammed the man’s status as a heart transplant recipient, saying that the life-saving organ was, essentially, wasted on the 47-year-old Mejia-Salinas. “That heart belongs in someone else’s chest,” Falcetano said in court, as reported by the Asbury Park Press. Mejia-Salinas pleaded guilty on Feb. 25, 2020 to two counts of first degree aggravated sexual assault, three counts of second degree sexual assault and two counts of third degree endangering the welfare of a child.
