Oneida County Suspends Vaccine Distribution Due To Lack Of Supply
Oneida County is the latest source of COVID-19 vaccine to suspend distribution due to a lack of supply.
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says, Unfortunately, due to a reduced vaccine allotment from the State of New York, we will be forced to suspend our operations on Thursday, January 21st, 2021. He went on to assure residents that his office stands ready and willing to work with state and federal officials to get people in Oneida County their shots.
The suspension of the vaccine distribution does not apply to those who are scheduled to get their second dose of the shot. There are doses allocated for those individuals.
After enduring the darkest days of the pandemic at the bedsides of COVID patients in their final moments, UC Chaplain Paul Lehmann says the vaccine has provided the first glimmers of light.
It was fitting, says Paul Lehmann, that he received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on the day of the winter solstice.
“From December 21 on, the days start to get longer, and the darkest days are behind us,” he says. “It will only get brighter from here.”
The metaphor offers some hope in what’s been a dark and devastating period for so many including Lehmann himself, who has witnessed the heartbreak firsthand as director of spiritual care for the Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing to invest $306 billion worth of projects around New York state, although Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties were not among the places announced for new development.
On Thursday, Cuomo gave his fourth State of the State address, which lasted around 30 minutes. In it, he complained about the inequity of New York having to fund the federal government. “New York is tired of subsidizing other states with our tax dollars,” he said. “We subsidize 42 states. … Basic fairness is all we ask but basic fairness we demand.”
From there, Cuomo said he wants the public sector to spur on the private sector by doing a number of projects. He cited Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal, a series of programs, public work projects, financial reforms and regulations enacted between 1933 and 1939, as his guide.
