Katelyn Ervin, 26, was killed by Ellis Lee Bell III on Feb. 27, 2018, said Detective Sgt. Steve Craig of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Bell, 36, of Nashville pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of Ervin and pleaded no contest to a related rape charge during a hearing Thursday in Circuit Court. During a victim’s impact statement, Debbie Ervin told Bell “how our family has been completely shattered because of his actions.” Katelyn Ervin was the fifth child of six children from the blended family between her mother and father, Steve Ervin, a county commissioner and Probation and Recovery Services Director for Rutherford County.

Oakland High School student charged after gun found on school grounds WTVF and last updated 2021-04-28 00:02:57-04 MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — A gun confiscated from a high school student s vehicle in Rutherford County Tuesday. An administrator at Oakland High School noticed a car that was illegally parked and appeared to have drugs inside. The car was quickly searched and a gun was found inside, according to a press release from the Rutherford County Schools Communications Director James Evans. The student was expelled and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds. No threats were made against any student. Through the school s partnership with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the situation was handled without incident.

UPDATE: Gun Confiscated from Student Vehicle at Oakland High School Apr 28, 2021 at 10:17 am by WGNS A gun was confiscated from a student’s car Tuesday (4/27/21) at Oakland High School, after an administrator noticed the car was parked illegally and appeared to have drugs inside. The car was quickly searched, which led to the discovery of the weapon. The student had been expelled from school and has been charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.  No threats were made against any student and all students are safe. Through the schools partnership with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the situation was handled without incident and the school followed the safety procedures used for these unfortunate situations.
