Darlene Stephanie Montoya, 23, was arrested near the scene and is facing murder charges

Asian Woman Fatally Stabbed In RivCo In 'Random' Attack - Banning-Beaumont, CA - An elderly Asian woman was stabbed to death while walking her dogs in Riverside. Officials said they don't believe it was a hate crime.
The woman was stabbed in her abdominal area, said Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback.
“Shortly after, our dispatch center began receiving calls from neighbors reporting a transient woman walking through their yards and appearing suspicious,” Railsback said. “Officers checked the nearby area and safely detained the woman.”
“The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Stephanie Montoya, a transient from Monterey Park,” he said.
“Preliminary investigation revealed Ms. Meng was walking her two small dogs along Golden Avenue this morning when she was randomly confronted and attacked by the transient woman,” Railsback said.
Detectives interviewed Montoya and determined that race did not appear to be a factor in the attack.
