(AP) A toddler has been struck and killed outside a residence in Walker by a driver who left the scene, according to Cass County sheriff’s officials. Sheriff Tom Burch said the 1-year-old girl was struck in the driveway of the home about 5 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say the driver, a 28-year-old Walker man, left the scene before deputies arrived. Deputies began first aid before paramedics arrived. The girl was taken to a landing zone but died before she was medically transported. Burch said in a statement that the driver returned to area and was arrested near the scene. He was taken to the Cass County Detention Center. Formal charges are pending.

Updated: 12:22 PM CDT May 3, 2021 WALKER, Minnesota A 1-year-old child was killed by a vehicle in a rural Minnesota driveway over the weekend, according to the Cass County sheriff. Sheriff Tom Burch said in a news release that just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, deputies received a report of a child who had been struck by a vehicle in rural Walker, Minnesota. When deputies arrived they found out that a young girl had been hit by a vehicle in the driveway of a home. The vehicle had already left the scene. Deputies immediately began first aid, and the girl was brought to a nearby location where lifesaving attempts were continued. However, she was pronounced dead.
