Staten Island COVID hospitalizations remain below 100; citywide numbers continue decline

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. As more and more people get vaccinated, coronavirus (COVID-19) numbers remain down across Staten Island.
For the first time in 2021, hospitalizations at Staten Island’s two hospitals were below 100 on Friday, and that remained true Saturday.
A spokesman for Richmond University Medical Center said 23 people were receiving inpatient care at the West Brighton hospital, which is the same as Friday. A spokeswoman for Staten Island University Hospital said they had 61 people hospitalized with the virus, a decrease of 12.
Since the beginning of the year, Staten Island’s coronavirus patient count has been in the triple digits.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. For the first time this year, the borough’s coronavirus (COVID-19) hospitalization total has dipped below 100.
At the same time, two more suspected disease-related deaths were recorded here, while just over 115 new confirmed coronavirus cases were added to Staten Island’s total, city Health Department data shows.
As of Friday afternoon, 96 coronavirus in-patients were being treated in the borough’s two hospital systems. That count dropped six from Thursday’s tally of 102.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A justice has ordered a mental-health exam for a Port Richmond man accused of fatally stabbing his roommate seven months ago.
The test will determine whether Ayomide Shodiya understands the charges against him and can aid in his defense.
