The Pennsylvania Department of Health is gearing up for a big influx of vaccine from the federal government and wants providers across the state to be ready for it and to make sure they allow for patients outside of their networks to make appointments.
Fewer providers, however, will be part of the provider network, state health officials said Tuesday.
To improve efficiency, more vaccines will be heading to fewer providers, according to Department of Health Senior Advisor for COVID-19 Response Lindsey Mauldin. The department is moving toward a more centralized system for distributing the vaccine to providers and county governments.
I knew it wouldn t be easy to score a COVID-19 vaccination.
Besides falling into the 1A group in Pennsylvania, I had reported and written stories about the virus, the vaccinations, the victims and all the emotions around those. There were so many people who desperately needed the shot, so I waited a few weeks to start staking out pharmacies.
