One driver was critically injured Thursday morning in a nine-vehicle collision that authorities say occurred when a semi-trailer hit another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 395 and Joshua Street in Hesperia.
San Bernardino County Sheriff s officials said evidence at the scene and witness statements led them to believe that a 2021 Freightliner semi-trailer traveling south on Highway 395 failed to stop for a red light. The semi then collided into a 2002 Pontiac that had been traveling west on Joshua Street.
The impact of the collision sent both the Freightliner and Pontiac in a southwesterly direction until they entered a park and ride located on the southwest corner of the intersection and hit seven other vehicles that sustained minor to major damage.

Apple Valley resident Florence Mildred Hoffman-Carlson said she often reminisces about the “good old days,” when 10 cents got her into a double feature at her local movie theater and ice trucks made home deliveries.
Carlson, who lives at Solstice Senior Living, turned 100 on April 27 and had a pre-birthday celebration the Sunday prior at her home with family, friends and the Solstice staff.
“Everyone had a great time, with food and cake served outside under a tent to keep everyone safe,” said Angele Laib, the director of sales and marketing for Solstice.
Laib said the festivities for Carlson may have been outside, but the decorations, meal and service made it an elegant affair.
