Sunset Concert Series, Freedom Festival headline busy summer in Apple Valley

Apple Valley s popular Sunset Concert Series, Fourth of July Freedom Festival and a multitude of recreational activities are returning to town after they were canceled last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
With San Bernardino County moving recently into the less-restrictive orange tier of the state s reopening framework, Apple Valley officials are now preparing to bring back the town s spring and summer entertainment and recreation offerings, with the concert series set for a June start.
Details are still in the works for the Apple Valley’s Summer Kickoff Celebration on May 29. Spokesperson Charlene Engeron said the event will include games and activities at many town parks.

Singer and heavy machine operator Chayce Beckham, of Apple Valley, continued his impressive run on “American Idol” on Sunday after being voted into the top 16 of ABC s popular singing competition.
The gritty-voiced Beckham appeared to be backstage on the show s set when he poured his heart out on Instagram after found out he had advanced.
“I m freaking out, I don’t know, I was like the last person to get called so I just thought I was going home, I really did,” Beckham said. “I feel so blessed, so happy right now.”
One man dead, sheriff s deputy injured after two-vehicle crash in Victorville

A 23-year old driver died at the scene and a sheriff’s deputy suffered injuries after his patrol vehicle collided with the man’s BMW in Victorville on Sunday, authorities said.
The unidentified deputy was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital. He was later released to recover at home, the Victorville Sheriff’s Station said in a statement released Monday.
Sheriff’s officials said the deputy was en route to provide assistance on a call at approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday, when he and the driver of the BMW were involved in a collision at the intersection of Amargosa Road and Tawney Ridge Lane.
