Missing woman found dead in Houghton Lake

ROSCOMMON COUNTY, MI – The body of a missing woman has been found floating in Houghton Lake.
The Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office had been looking for Christy Jackson through social media and public assistance since she was last seen walking the shoreline of Houghton Lake near the intersection of M-55 and Holly Avenue in Denton Township on April 7.
She was found in the popular lake on Tuesday, April 27, according to deputies who had been assisting the Denton Township Police Department in coordinating search efforts and mutual aid response.
“We would like to thank all who assisted over the many days of searching,” a news release reads. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Christy’s family and loved ones as they grieve through their loss.”

Deputies found the body of Christy Jackson, 31, in the waters of Houghton Lake Tuesday morning.
Jackson was last seen in Denton Township.

The Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office is starting a new program to better help those with autism.
The First Responder Autism Awareness program was created to help first responders be prepared and to provide a tailored approach when servicing those with autism.
That includes having sensory items on hand.
Those in Roscommon County who register will get a sticker to place on a vehicle or home, making responders aware that there may be someone on the spectrum inside.
“We’re always learning we’re always trying to do things that are good for our community and better our community. We want to be able to help these individuals and do the right thing and not traumatize or create a situation that’s completely unnecessary,” said Emilie Pelleran, Community Service Officer.

A K9 is being praised for helping catch two suspects running from police.
The Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office says Missaukee County deputies chased a vehicle into Roscommon County last month.
The suspects drove to a small neighborhood surrounded by woods in Lake Township and then started running.
K9 Ghost tracked the suspects and found one hiding in a clump of trees.
Ghost tracked the second suspect down Pinecrest Road, through a yard, over the frozen Muskegon River, down a snowmobile trail and through multiple residential yards.
Deputies found him hiding in a garage and say it appears he was trying to find a house to hide in.
