ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities on Tuesday urged people to strictly follow public health guidelines amid fears of a “third wave” of COVID-19 infections around the country.
“We are trying our best to take all necessary measures to control the infections, but it is almost impossible without public support,” Sajid Hussain Shah, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Health Services and Regulations, told Arab News on Tuesday.
He said that the government had imposed lockdowns in virus hotspots, including the capital Islamabad and some areas of the populous Punjab province.
“We request the public to strictly follow health guidelines for their own benefit,” he said.

RAWALPINDI: While the upward trend in Covid-19 cases continued in Islamabad with 402 more infections, the Punjab government imposed a micro-smart lockdown in four localities of Rawalpindi and issued new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for bazaars and public places.
The areas sealed in Rawalpindi are: Street 4 Sadiqabad, Allama Iqbal Colony, Azizabad and Dhoke Paracha.
Under the micro-smart lockdown, localities such as one building with multiple units or small neighbourhoods would be sealed.
Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Anwarul Haq said the home department had issued a notification under which the four localities were sealed for two weeks.

LAHORE: As many as 36 patients died of COVID-19 while another 1632 new infections were confirmed in Punjab province during the last 24 hours. Besides, in the federal capital and Rawalpindi district another 477 patients were tested positive in the last 24 hours along with seven deaths.
According to report issued by Primary and Secondary Healthcare (P&SH) Department Punjab on Friday, the toll of fatalities so far was raised to 5,698 in Punjab, while confirmed cases of coronavirus reached 182,576 in the province.
As per the spokesperson of Corona Monitoring Room at Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, as many as 15,736 tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours, which raised the total number of tests to 3,480,725 in the province.
