Lancaster County s mask mandate to end Friday, UNL restrictions remain | City

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department announced Tuesday the county’s mask mandate will end Friday following updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, announced the new mask recommendations on Thursday, which said fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks indoors or outdoors in most settings, according to The New York Times. Individuals are still required to follow local guidance. While Lancaster County’s mask requirement will no longer be enforced beginning Friday at 12:01 a.m., the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will continue to require face coverings unless a policy change is made before then.

BREAKING: Mask mandate lifted, Risk Dial in the green

KLKN-TV May 18, 2021 3:40 pm LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) The mask mandate is no more. The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) has decided to let the mandate expire Friday, May 21 after the COVID-19 Risk Dial drops to ‘green,’ almost exactly 11 months since the mandate was first implemented. “This wasn’t something we just decided in the last few days,” commented Health Director Pat Lopez. “We don’t want to go backward, but we want to go forward and I, I feel really compelled to the community- we told them what it was going to take to get us in ‘green’ and what it was going to take to remove the mask mandate and I want to honor that, and that’s where we are due to the communities hard work.”
