Congressman Bennie Thompson addresses Jackson State University 2021 graduates

The ceremony for the 2021 Undergraduate Class of Jackson State University was held at 9 a.m., Saturday May 8, at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Jackson, MS. The keynote speaker was U. S. Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson, 2nd District. There were hundreds of attendees present and the ceremony was also live streamed.
Thompson said to the students, “For the past four, five, six and maybe seven years you have struggled to get to this day and all the late nights and early mornings have paid off.” He told the graduates that they represented the hopes and dreams of those in the audience that were proud of them for the momentous milestone they had reached.

Curtis Lawrence III was admitted to 14 colleges, among them some top universities in the nation, including George Washington University, Hampton University, Harvard University, Howard University, Morehouse College, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T State University, University of California-Berkeley, the University of Chicago and Yale University, reported WTTG-TV FOX5. He has also received $1.6 million in scholarships for the fall semester.
The teen recently announced he will attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, a Historically Black College and University, where he will double major in biology and computer science.

Osco Williams III, Williamstown, commits to Morehouse College, a historically Black institution in Atlanta Georgia, where he will play Division-II volleyball.

Osco Williams III, a senior volleyball player from Williamstown High School in Monroe Township, will continue his playing career on the collegiate level. And he’s chosen to play for a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
The South Jersey native plans to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga., this fall, where he has received a scholarship to play for the school’s inaugural Division II men’s volleyball team.

Area students in grades 9-11 can participate in enrichment activities offered during a one-day youth camp hosted on Gadsden State Community College’s Valley Street Campus, the area’s only Historically Black College and University campus.
Empowerment Camp 2021 will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8 in the Learning Resource Center at 600 Valley St. in Gadsden.
“Empowerment Camp 2021 will focus on activities that promote personal growth and financial literacy,” said Kimberly Campbell-Dixon, camp coordinator. “We want students to complete the camp feeling empowered with the knowledge and tools they can use to be successful in high school, college and life.”
