The 28-year-old man charged in connection with the killing of a widowed, father of four in Worcester over the weekend previously faced a murder charge in another case but was found not guilty, records show.
Angel Ortiz-Santos, who has a last known address in Worcester, was arraigned in Worcester District Court Tuesday on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and carrying a firearm without a license in connection with the fatal shooting of Carlos Cruz on Saturday.
Richardson is 24 and lived at 2 Trenton St. in the Cherry Valley section of Leicester.
6:13 a.m. Sunday, a 2008 Toyota FJ Base SUV rammed through the locked, steel double-doors of the Leicester Police Department, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
“He repeatedly rammed those doors until he gained entry with his vehicle into the building,” Early said.
“There’s a ramp that goes up to it (the doors) for handicap accessibility,” Police Chief Kenneth Antanavica said. “He drove his car up that ramp and repeatedly rammed those doors…Almost the entire vehicle was into the lobby.”
Authorities on Monday identified the man as Richardson.

The 65-year-old man fatally stabbed in Worcester Wednesday morning was attacked by another man who was inside the same livery vehicle, according to court records and prosecutors.
The victim was picked up at 8 a.m. He was pronounced dead one hour later after the attack, records show.
Authorities arrested 53-year-old Ramon Castro of Worcester in connection with the killing of William Gomez.

A 29-year-old man laid still in a hospital bed at UMass Medical Center as prosecutors described how he allegedly decapitated his mother and answered the door covered in blood when police arrived at the residence on Halmstad Street last week.
Dal Khan Mung, who is accused of fatally stabbing his 71-year-old mother, Nan Thang, in a Worcester apartment last week, was arraigned on Wednesday through a Burmese interpreter via Zoom in Worcester District Court.

Court records have identified the 29-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his 71-year-old mother in Worcester on Friday.
Dal Khan Mung was arrested on Friday after police in Worcester found a bloody knife next to his mother’s lifeless body in the kitchen of an apartment on Halmstad Street, court documents said.
Mung has been charged with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, court documents said.
At about 11 a.m. on Friday, police responded to 27 Halmstad Street #1H for a report of a stabbing, court documents said. Upon arrival, officers found a 71-year-old woman lying on the kitchen floor suffering from multiple lacerations and severe trauma, court documents said.
