Flyr: Norway s Newest Start-up Airline | Airways Magazine

MIAMI– Yesterday, Flyr (Norwegian word for flying) held a press conference detailing the formation of Norway’s newest carrier set to enter the domestic market and serve some European destinations to/from the country. Airlines throughout the world have suffered over the last year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Collectively, airlines have lost billions, with hundreds of aircraft now in long term storage with no sign of them returning. However, there is new light for the airline industry with the unveiling of this new Norwegian airline, which, despite the pandemic, is now set to take aim at Norwegian Air (DY) and Wizz Air (W6).

Air Transat to Suspend All Flights to Toronto

MIAMI – Canada’s Air Transat (TS) will stop all flights to and from Toronto (YYZ) until May, placing the blame on the COVID-19 pandemic. “The continued travel restrictions and the numerous measures imposed by the federal government, including the requirement to present a negative COVID-19 test and to quarantine upon return to Canada, have had a significant impact on our bookings,” a TC spokesperson said. Therefore, the airline had to revise its Winter schedule, as it did before since the onset of the pandemic. The Montreal-based airlines will not operate to YYZ until May 1. However, flights from Montreal (YUL) to six international destinations will resume; namely Cancun, Mexico (CUN); Holguin, Cuba (HOG), Paris (CDG), Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP); Punta Cana (PUJ), and Puerto Plata (POP) in the Dominican Republic.

How Military GPS Jamming Affects Commercial Aviation

MIAMI – In order to face possible threats, the US military conducts routine testing on GPS that affects all ATM, CNS, and ADS-B systems, the latter which reports an aircraft location to Air Traffic Control (ATC). The above acronyms ATM and CNS stand for Air Traffic Management and Communication Navigation Surveillance. An FAA commissioned report – Operational Impacts of Intentional GPS Interference – of March 2018 states that these jamming exercises are on the increase and create serious problems to air traffic control and commercial airlines. Domestic COVID-19 Testing: A Crushing Blow to US Airlines

According to Reuters, Dr. Marty Cetron, director for the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine at CDC, was asked about whether the administration might employ new domestic travel testing requirements. Cetron replied that there were “conversations that are ongoing and looking at what the types and locations of testing might be… We’re actively looking at it.” Last week, President Joe Biden directed US agencies to make recommendations to “impose additional public health measures for domestic travel” and to consider new requirements for people crossing land borders. Reuters reported Friday that administration officials said that could include requiring negative COVID-19 tests before flying domestically.
