S7 Airlines to Take Delivery of Boeing 737-800BCF

According to Cargo Facts, the aircraft are two Boeing 737-800 passenger airliners that have been converted into freighters. GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) will be leasing the aircraft to the S7’s Cargo division. Air Senegal to Begin Service to Milan-Malpensa, Lyon

MIAMI – Air Senegal (HC) will add two European routes from their hub at Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) within the next two months. Service to Milan-Malpensa Airport (MXP), the airline’s first Italian route, will begin on February 17, while service to Lyon-Saint Exupery Airport (LYS) in France will begin March 28. Senegal’s flag carrier airline will operate both routes with an Airbus A321, three times per week. Pittsburgh International Airport to Pursue US$1 1bn Terminal Modernization

MIAMI – Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), after a pandemic-imposed delay, will go ahead with its Terminal Modernization Program (TMP) project. Estimated to cost around US$1.1bn, the project’s stated goal is to modernize outdated hub facilities, reduce long-term costs, and assist with the region’s economic recovery. The project seeks a completion date at the end of 2024, with the terminal opening in 2025. Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, is optimistic about the project despite the challenges of COVID-19. Cassotis tweeted on February 3, “It will be the first airport terminal designed and constructed for the realities of post-pandemic travel.”

Qatar Airways to Save US$1 2bn from Gulf Concord

MIAMI – Qatar Airways (QR) is set to drop its operational costs by around US$1.2bn, following the history Gulf reconciliation agreement. The airline’s flights have been reopened to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain airspace. During the state television interview on Tuesday, Akbar al-Baker, the airline’s executive chairman said the reopening of airspace following the Gulf reconciliation, will have a positive impact on the company’s financial performance. Nigeria Hands Emirates a 72-Hour Ban amid COVID-19 Violations

The Daily Post – Nigeria News reports that the flight ban first appeared in a Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) circular issued on February 4. It explained that the suspension is due to the airline not following guidelines put in place by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19. Nigeria is accusing the airline of airlifting passengers from Nigeria and using rapid antigen tests performed at unapproved laboratories. The circular read, “…the PTF has directed that Emirates Airlines should either accept passengers without RDT pending when the infrastructure and logistics are put in place or suspend its flights to and from Nigeria until such a time when the required infrastructure and logistics are fully established and implemented.”
