OGDCL Discovers Gas and Condensate in Hyderabad
The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), as the operator (95 percent), and Government Holdings (Pvt) Ltd (5 percent), has discovered gas from its Exploratory Well, Sial-1, located in Hyderabad district, Sindh.
According to the notice issued to Pakistan Stock Exchange, the structure of Sial-1 was drilled and tested using OGDCL’s in-house expertise.
The well was drilled to a depth of 2442 meters. Based on logs data, the well was tested at the rate of 1.146 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 680 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate through 32/64” choke at wellhead flowing pressure of 460 pounds per square inch (Psi) from Lower Guru Formation.

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) maintained its position as the market leader in the upstream petroleum sector by securing maximum acreage nationwide for drilling new wells, a statement said on Friday.
The Petroleum Concession director general has communicated the provisional award of new exploration blocks to OGDCL, it added.
The energy giant would work as an operator in 10 blocks and as a joint venture partner with Mari Petroleum and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in one block.
These blocks have been awarded after competitive bidding, based on the work units committed by different E&P companies in the block bidding round 2020 arranged by the government of Pakistan, it said.
OGDCL to Conduct Extensive Exploration Program
Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has planned to conduct a study to classify shale and tight gas reservoirs in the country as were identified by its initial investigation, reported a national daily.
The state-owned OGDCL conducted a ‘shale gas and tight gas’ study for Indus Basin, as a result of which 27 unconventionally focused areas were delineated, which showed the presence of significant in-place shale gas and tight gas resources.
A report issued by the company said that the main objective of the study is to classify shale reservoir quality, determine and mapping of brittleness on key reservoirs, and propose well trajectories in favorable spots.

The government has provisionally awarded 15 new blocks to four local oil and gas exploration companies to find new hydrocarbon deposits nationwide and reduce Pakistan’s heavy reliance on import of energy.
The state-owned Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) won 10 blocks out of the 15 awarded through competitive bidding by the government, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) and OKTL E&P acquired two blocks each while Pakistan Oilfield Limited (POL) secured one block, an official of the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) told The Express Tribune on Wednesday.
