A teenager suspected of fly-kicking a pensioner into the River Mersey has been named and charged by police.
Disturbing footage, which the ECHO has chosen not to publish, shows a man dressed in a black gilet kicking the pensioner with force as he stands on the bank of the Mersey. Today Cheshire Police confirmed an 18-year-old suspect has been charged over the dreadful scenes.

Benjamin Bridgeman handed himself in at a police station yesterday, Wednesday, in connection with the shocking incident near to Riverside Retail Park on Sunday. And the 18-year-old, of Quebec Road in Orford, has since been charged with one count of assault. A 15-year-old boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - has also now been charged with assault over the attack, Cheshire Police have confirmed this afternoon, Thursday.

Another teenager has been charged in connection with a shocking assault on a pensioner who was sent headfirst into the River Mersey by a flying kick. Disturbing footage, which the ECHO has chosen not to publish, shows a man dressed in a black gilet kicking the pensioner with force as he stands on the bank of the Mersey.
As he floundered in the waters those responsible ran away, and laughing could be heard.
Cheshire Police. A TEENAGER has been charged with assault after a pensioner was kicked into the River Mersey in Cheshire. Benjamin Bridgeman handed himself in at a police station yesterday, Wednesday, in connection with the shocking incident. And the 18-year-old, of Yardley Avenue in Bewsey, Warrington, has since been charged with one count of assault. He has been released on bail ahead of an appearance at Warrington Magistrates Court next month. Cheshire Police have confirmed that no further action will be taken against a 15-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of assault yesterday. But a second 15-year-old was detained by police this morning, Thursday, over the attack.
