Tree felling in Suhrawardy Udyan to remain suspended: minister

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said felling of trees in the city’s Suhrawardy Udyan will remain suspended for now and the next steps to this end would be taken in consultation with environmentalists and other stakeholders concerned.
He came up with the remark at a press briefing on the ongoing the third phase construction of Swadhinata Stambha at Suhrawardy Udyan at the conference room of his ministry.
The minister said it was supposed to cut down 100 trees of the historic Suhrawardy Udyan as part of implementation of a mega plan to preserve the history of Bangalees struggle of freedom for the next generation and about 50 trees have already been felled.

Fifty trees have been cut down to implement the third phase of Swadhinata Stambha and 50 more may have to be felled for the project, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said today.
Addressing a press conference at the ministry, he said they will form a committee incorporating relevant experts like architects, botanists, environmentalists who will visit the area and will take further decision on cutting 50 more trees. We will change our plan if necessary, as per the suggestion of experts and will try to save as many trees as possible. We will plant 1,000 trees in the (Suhrawardy) Udyan to compensate for it, he said.
Anti-liberation forces assassinated Ahsanullah Master: Mozammel

DHAKA, May 06, 2021 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said the anti-liberation forces killed veteran freedom-fighter, labour-leader,teacher and former lawmaker Ahsanullah Master.
“With the help of state power, the anti-liberation forces killed veteran freedom fighter and former lawmaker Ahsanullah Master,” he said.
He said this while addressing a virtual discussion organized by Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master MP Smriti Parishad as the chief guest on the occasion of the 17th death anniversary of Ahsanullah Master to be observed tomorrow.
It was said at the discussion that on May 7 in 2004, a group of terrorists patronized by the then four-party alliance government led by BNP, killed him on MA Majid Mia High School ground at Noagaon in the district.
Liberation War Affairsâ Minister receives 2nd dose of Covid-19 vaccine

DHAKA, Apr 19, 2021 (BSS)âLiberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine at the Secretariat Clinic around 12noon today.
âAfter receiving the vaccine, the minister felt good and no side effects were immediately known to report after the vaccination,â according to an official release here.
Earlier, AKM Mozammel Haque was vaccinated on February 17 for the first time.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilias Chowdhury was present during the vaccination period.

Hefazat wonât be spared in any way: Mozammel

DHAKA, April 16, 2021 (BSS) â Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said today that Hefazat-e-Islam will not be spared in any way for carrying out violence on March 27-27.
âThey have hurt the spirit of the Liberation War by taking stand against the state, therefore, fair trials would be ensured,â he said.
The minister made the remarks after paying homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation at Dhanmondi No. 32 on the occasion of historic Mujibnagar Day.
Hefazat-e-Islam carried out the violence from March 26 to March 27 in imitation of what the Pakistanis did in 1971. Hefazat will have to face trial legally; they will not be exempted from this in any way, he said.
