Cops arrest 2 more Hefajat leaders in city

Police yesterday arrested two top leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam from the capital along seven supporters of the Islamist group from Brahmanbaria.
The two leaders are Dhaka City unit President Maulana Zunayed Al Habib and an Assistant Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed
Maulana Zunayed is also the joint secretary general of Hefajat, a Qawmi madrasa-based Islamist organisation.
Law enforcers said that the two were arrested in connection with cases filed following the 2013 mayhem and the one in late March this year.

DHAKA, April 16, 2021 (BSS) – Several programmes have been taken to observe the historic Mujibnagar Day tomorrow in compliance with the health rules in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are expected to issue separate messages on the eve of the day recalling the historic event.
The day will begin with the hoisting of the national flag at sunrise at Liberation War Memorial Centre (Muktijuddho Srity Kendro) at Mujibnagar in Meherpur district.
Later, wreaths will be laid at 9:30 am at the Liberation War Memorial Center in Mujibnagar abiding by the health rules.

DHAKA, Apr 16, 2021 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today urged the people to perform their respective duties properly for building Sonar Bangla under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina imbued with patriotism and lessons of the Mujibnagar Day.
The spirit and teaching of the historic Mujibnagar day will continue to inspire the nation from generation to generation, he added.

Describing April 17 as a glorious and memorable day in the history of Independent Bangladesh, Mozammel Huq said the first government of Bangladesh had taken oath on this day at the Mango orchard in Baidhyanathtala under Meherpur district in 1971.
