VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN): The number of new Covid-19 cases is spiking, not only in Laos but also in the whole region, despite reinforced measures to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
The taskforce will also increase the number of staff working in Intensive Care Units at central hospitals.
The taskforce comprises health authorities, medical experts and infection control experts, who plan to make changes towards the standardised management of Covid patients.
During hospital inspections, taskforce members discussed ways to ensure problems were dealt with promptly, to prevent the spread of infection in Intensive Care Units.
The Deputy Director General of Mahosot Hospital, Dr Khamsai Detvixay, outlined the plans on Tuesday (May 18) when announcing that a facility belonging to the Lao Football Federation in Huayhong village would be designated as a new temporary hospital.
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN): Party and government leaders have demanded that state officers involved in the abuse of narcotic drugs should be subject to harsher penalties than ordinary citizens a move seen as setting officers as an example.
The Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday (May 12) issued a notice requesting the Ministry of Public Security to include tougher penalties in the drug suppression agenda.
Laos is naming the prevention and control of narcotic drugs as a ‘national agenda’ a status that requires decisive action and the involvement of various sectors to step up the battle against the current threat posed by narcotics.
The government has extended the lockdown for another 15 days until May 20.
The Overall number of Covid-19 cases remains high, the premier said in a statement issued on May 5.
On May 6, Laos recorded 105 new cases bringing the total number to 1,177 cases. The country is struggling to contain the current community outbreak of the virus which began in the middle of April.
“The government is aware that extending measures will cause difficulties in people’s daily lives, ” PM Phankham said.
“But we ask everyone to understand the situation and to be patient so that we may control and eventually overcome this virus outbreak.”
