LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Two high school students from Kentucky, including one from Louisville, have been named 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars, officials said.
Justin Michael Burch, who attends St. Xavier High School, and Sarah Belcher, who attends Pikeville High School, were among 161 high school students across the nation recognized for their accomplishments, U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona said in a statement.
The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually. Students are chosen based on academics, artistic ability, technical excellence, essays, school evaluations, leadership, community service and a commitment to high ideals.
“The 2021 Presidential Scholars represent extraordinary achievements for our extraordinary times,” Cardona said. “Their examples make me proud and hopeful about the future. Honoring them can remind us all of the great potential in each new generation and renew our commitmen

CHEYENNE The U.S. Department of Education announced the addition of Siler Weaver of Evanston and Jessica Petri of Green River to the 57th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars.
Representing Sweetwater County, Weaver, a senior at Evanston High School and Petri, a senior at Green River High School were chosen from a pool of over 6,000 qualified candidates nationwide. The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.
“Congratulations to Siler and Jessica on all of the milestones you achieved that led you to this prestigious designation. Wyoming’s future is in good hands,” said State Superintendent Jillian Balow.
